Medical Supplier Under Fire

Products that are inherently unsafe, those that do not warn of potential risks of injury or those that suffer from a major flaw in their design are prohibited from the market. 

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall with national medical supplier TRUMPF Medical of the latter’s television mounting systems following a reported incident of a personal injury earlier this year.

One of the company’s biggest selling products is the Ondal AC2000 Mounting System used primarily to secure digital monitors for hospitals particularly in Intensive Care Units. This is the first that the Charleston-based company has been rocked by a product recall.

There are said to be 215 units affected, distributed to at least five unnamed hospitals, particularly the off-white mounts sold between January 2005 and December of last year for about $2,100.

Failure of the arm joints has been duly noted by the company and has attributed it to some faulty assembly in its German factory. TRUMPF has assured its clients that when used with the repair kits and washers, the Ondal AC2000 should work as advertised.
