Halloween Personal Injury Tips

Halloween is an occasion enjoyed by both children and adults. However, it can spell disaster if you do not take necessary precautions and get too carried away by festivities. Statistics show that on Halloween night, more car accidents occur than on preceding and succeeding days. Also, a large number of accidents occur because of drunk driving. Here are some tips that will help you stay safe this Halloween.

Have a Designated Driver
Many accidents occur as a result of drunk driving, so it makes sense to use a designated driver if you have had a drink or two. You may like to believe that 1-2 drinks won’t cause any harm, but even a small amount of alcohol can impair your abilities considerably.

Make Sure You Can Be Seen
While going from house to house, it may be a good idea to carry some sort of light so you are visible to drivers. You may even want to attach reflective tape to your clothes or accessories.

Choose a Safe Costume and Accessories
You may not think that your costume is a safety concern, however some mask may obscure vision and could cause an accident. Additionally accessories that are sharp can be dangerous.

Avoid Distractions
Talking on mobile phone or texting while crossing roads, can increase the chances of an accident. It is a good idea to avoid using cell phones or any other distracting device while cross the road or walking near traffic.

Remind kids to cross roads with caution, and keep telling them to “look left and right before crossing”.

Prevent Electrical Fires
You must never overload power strips and outlets with plugs, and beware of any frayed wires or loose connections that can lead to sparking or fire.

Decorations
It is inadvisable to use any kind of decorations that may come in the way of trick-or-treaters. In case someone meets an accident due to the obstacles placed on your property, you might be held responsible for the injury.

Candy to Avoid
It is important not to eat anything that is not inside its original packing, or is unsealed.
